EDUCATE Denver releases Board of Education progress report to evaluate governance of

Report highlights recent Board decisions that prioritize student academic success

Denver – EDUCATE Denver, a civic coalition for DPS students, issued a Board of Education Progress Report today as part of a campaign to focus district leaders on activities that support high-quality education in Denver Public Schools. The current report, specifically, highlights recent Board decisions that enhance DPS’ ability to serve students in well-resourced programs and which focus leadership on strong academic outcomes as the primary responsibility of the district.

Noteworthy Board of Education activity reflected in the report includes:

  • A unanimous decision to approve the superintendent’s recommendation to close seven and restructure three schools. The decision moves affected students toward higher-quality programming and streamlines district resources.

  • A decision to evaluate the superintendent on fewer, more rigorous goals, weighted most heavily on student academic success, for the 24-25 school year.

Today’s report is the second of four that will be published this school year in conjunction with Board of Education meetings that occur through June. Updates will be published quarterly to sustain Board accountability and to provide the community with more transparency around Board of Education efforts. The report aligns with the four focus areas of the EDUCATE Denver Platform.
